Picture/Spelling Reveal

Picture/Spelling Reveal

Aim of the Game:

This game could be used for practising the skill of prediction and inference in reading as well as practising spellings. I was inspired by the game from Catchphrase where they have to press a button to reveal the picture behind a square and try to guess what the picture is.

What do you need?

  • A picture or a spelling word written on paper
  • Some post-it notes
  • A dice

How to Play:

🎲 Cover your picture or spelling word with post-it’s and number them 1-6.
🎲 Roll the dice and peel off the same numbered post-it note.
🎲 Encourage lots of discussion about what players predict the picture or word might be based on what they can see. This helps practise the skill of inference too which is using clues from writing or a picture to help guess what a character might be thinking or feeling.
🎲 When players are confident with their prediction, they can pull the rest of the post-it notes off to see if they are correct.
