Snakes and Ladders

Snakes and Ladders

Aim of the Game:

This game is an adaptation of the game ‘Snakes and Ladders’ with a learning twist. I don’t actually have the game at home but I’ve got a draughts/chess board so I just printed some snakes and ladders out and stuck them on with blu-tac, but you can use the actual game if you have it!

What do you need?

  • snakes and ladders game (or an adapted version like mine)
  • paper or cards with different words on it
  • a dice

How to Play:

🐍 If you land at the bottom of a ladder, you roll the dice (which has the numbers 3-8 on) and in order to get to the top of the ladder you need to count in that number up the rings till you get to the top. If you do it correctly you can stay at the top, if not you have to stay at the bottom.

🐍 If you land on a snake, you normally have to slide down but the way to prevent this is to spell a word correctly. One other player has to pick a word card and read it aloud and the player at the snake has to spell it. If it’s spelt correctly, the player doesn’t have to slide down, if not, they have to slide down the snake.

Hope that’s added a little extra challenge to this well loved game!
