“Spelling Towers” is an engaging spelling game that challenges players to construct their spelling words using individual Duplo blocks. The objective is to be the first player to successfully build their entire word.
What You Need
Spelling Words: Each player should have a different spelling word, all with the same number of letters. Write these words down for reference.
Duplo Blocks: Prepare Duplo blocks with individual letters written on them. You should have enough blocks to spell out the letters of each player’s word.
Dice: Use a standard six-sided dice for determining how many letters players can build.
Players: Gather a group of players, each with their own spelling word and access to the Duplo blocks and dice.
How to Play
Prepare the Duplo Blocks:
Write one letter on each Duplo block. Ensure that you have enough blocks to spell out each player’s word.
Select Spelling Words:
Each player chooses a spelling word of the same length (e.g. five letters).
Taking Turns:
Players take turns rolling the dice. The number rolled on the dice determines how many letters of their word they can build with the Duplo blocks.
Building Letters:
After rolling the dice, players are allowed to select the first X letters (X being the number rolled on the dice) of their word and build them using the corresponding Duplo blocks. For example, if a player rolls a 3, they can choose the first three letters of their word and build them using the blocks.
Winning the Game:
The first player to successfully build their entire word using the Duplo blocks wins the game.
“Spelling Towers” is an enjoyable and hands-on way to reinforce spelling skills. It challenges players to think strategically as they build their words.
