Shape Scavenger Hunt

Shape Scavenger Hunt

Aim of the Game:

Knowing both 2D and 3D shape names and properties is something children will learn at primary school. There are lots of shapes for children to learn by the time they get into KS2. This game is a quick set up game which is fun and will get children moving too! (plus you get to sit down with a cup of tea!)

What do you need?

  • I’ve used the left over pieces from our Orchard Toys games (which are great to use for all sorts of things so keep them if you have them) to draw the shapes in but you can use anything similar
  • Whiteboard and pen or pen and paper
  • Some counters

How to Play:

⭕️ In each section, draw or write the name of a mixture of 2D and 3D shapes.
⭕️ In tiddlywinks style, use two counters to flick one into one of the sections.
⭕️ Children must shout out the name of the shape and then go and hunt for something of that shape in the house.
⭕️ When they have found it you can explore the shape a bit more and talk about its properties, e.g. how many sides, corners, faces, short/long sides, etc.
