Find the Missing Number – Identify, represent and estimate numbers (Yr3)
Aim of the Game:
This activity will help children to work out missing numbers in a sequence using their knowledge of place value.
What do you need?
Orchard Toys game piece cut outs or you could draw your own grids or use something else you have around the house (an egg box could work for this too).
How to Play:
Write some numbers, equally spaced, in the sections of the grid.
Children have to fill in the missing numbers.
In this example the children not only have to add 2 across the grid but realise that they are also increasing each row by 10. This is a good way to see if children really understand the place value of numbers.
Once they’ve had a few attempts, they could also write their own numbers and challenge someone else to fill in the missing ones.
