Decimal Drop!

Decimal Drop!

Aim of the Game:

Here’s a simple activity to help children understand the value of each digit in a decimal number and practise how to say a decimal number (as children often get confused with this).

What do you need?

  • a muffin tin
  • some numbers
  • labels (shown in the picture)
  • a ping pong ball

How to Play:

🏀 Fill each section of the muffin tin with a number.
🏀 Players bounce the ball into one of the holes and remove the number in it. Your ball is now the decimal point in this number.
🏀 Now add the correct labels above each digit (picture three).
🏀 Finally say the number aloud, in this case it would be fifty-eight point seven.

Just a simple game to introduce decimal numbers and help children understand the value of each digit in the number.
