I’ve always used hangman for spelling practise but it suddenly came to me that it could be used for maths, particularly number sequences as well! You play the game as normal but instead of guessing a word, we’re guessing the numbers for the sequence on the board. This should get children thinking about number patterns and what the rule could be once they start revealing the digits in the numbers.
What do you need?
Whiteboard or paper and pen/pencil
How to Play:
Player one writes dashes to denote the places in a number sequence.
Children call out digits that they think may fit in the spaces.
If the digit is correct, player one write the digit in the correct spaces on the grid.
If it’s not in the number sequence, start drawing the hangman picture.
The players win if they guess all the digits in the number sequence before the hangman is drawn.
