Using Megablocks to Practise Times Tables

Objective:

Use MegaBlocks to practice times tables in a hands-on and engaging way by ordering, building, and solving multiplication problems.

Materials Needed:

🧱 MegaBlocks or similar building blocks
🎲 Number stickers or whiteboard/chalk pens (for labelling blocks with numbers)
🎒 A small bag for hiding number blocks

Setup:

1️⃣ Prepare the Blocks – Label MegaBlocks with multiplication facts (e.g., “3 x 4”, “12”, etc.).

How to Play:

1️⃣ Order from Smallest to Largest

• Players work together (or compete) to arrange the number blocks in ascending order.

2️⃣ Mystery Block Challenge

• One player draws a number block from the bag.
• They must find and build the correct multiplication sentence using the MegaBlocks.

3️⃣ Times Table Tower Race

• Players race to build a complete times table tower by stacking the correct multiplication questions and answers in order.
• The first player to correctly complete their tower wins!

Winning the Game:

🏆 The player/team that successfully completes their multiplication challenges the fastest and most accurately wins!

Variations & Challenges:

🔥 Beat the Clock: Set a timer and challenge players to finish before time runs out.
🤔 Missing Number: Remove one block and have players determine the missing factor.
💡 Tower Showdown: Compete in teams to build the tallest and most accurate times table tower.
