Aim of the Game

Be the first player to get three answers in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) by correctly calculating the change received after making a purchase.

What You Need
  • A noughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe) grid
  • Two different coloured pens or pencils
  • A list of amounts paid (e.g. £5, £10, £20) written down the left-hand side of the grid
  • A list of item prices written across the top of the grid
How to Play
  1. Set up a noughts and crosses grid.
  2. Write different note values down the left-hand side and different item prices across the top.
  3. Players take turns choosing an empty square on the grid.
  4. To claim a square, the player must calculate the change they would receive when paying with the note shown on the left and buying the item price shown at the top.
  5. The player writes the correct amount of change in their chosen square using their colour.
  6. The next player repeats the process, using a different coloured pen.
  7. Continue taking turns until one player has three of their answers in a row or all squares have been filled.
