Here’s a game to play to help children practise finding change after they’ve bought something. I’ve done two variations of the same game so you can decide how you want to play.
⭕️ Draw the board out, writing the prices of items in one colour at the top and the amount they paid with in another colour down the side. Explain that to play this noughts and crosses, players must decide where they are going to put their nought or cross but before they can draw it, they have to work out the change they will get. For instance, if they want to choose the middle square, the cost of their item was £4.12 and they paid with a £5.00 note so they must work out the change.
⭕️ If they get the question correct, they can draw their nought or cross and play continues. If they get it wrong, they lose their turn.
In the muffin tin variation, play works in the same way but you can bounce a ball in to select a square and then complete the calculation. They could either play it like noughts and crosses and add coloured counters to each section when they get a question correct or play individually and try to fill each section with a counter.
Have fun!
