Multiples of 10 Bowling – find 10 or 100 more or less (Yr3)

Multiples of 10 Bowling – find 10 or 100 more or less (Yr3)

Aim of the Game:

Here’s a bowling inspired activity to help children practise how to find 10, 100 or 1000 more or less than a number.  Play until all the pins have fallen over.

What do you need?

  • Small plastic drinks bottles to make the bowling pins with + or – 10, 100 and 1000 written on each bottle.
  • A small ball
  • Whiteboard/paper and numbers.
  • I always find using a place value chart really helps children to understand how to add and subtract multiples of 10 so worth making one of these on a whiteboard or bit of paper or download one here.

How to Play:

  • Make a 2, 3 or 4 digit number.
  • Roll the ball and collect any of the bottles you knock down.
  • Use these to complete the calculation, writing the new numbers as you go.
  • Play continues until all of the bottles have been knocked down.
  • Then start again with a new starting number.
