Number Bond Pong

Number Bond Pong

Aim of the Game:

For children to be able to confidently add, they need a good knowledge of number bonds. Start with bonds to 10, 20 then 100. Number bonds are two numbers that add together to make a given number. Once children are secure with these they will find mental addition and more complex addition questions much easier. But they are challenging for some children to remember so, as always, my recommendation is to turn the learning into something simple but fun.

What do you need?

  • 20 cups (with 1-20 written on each)
  • 20 pieces of paper folded (with 1-20 written on each)
  • Ping Pong ball

How to Play:

  • Write the numbers 0-20 on cups and the same again on small pieces of paper.
  • Arrange the cups on a table or floor.
  • Children take one piece of paper and unfold it and work out what number they need to add to get to 20.
  • Once found they can either use a ball to knock the cup with that number over or aim and fire the ball into the cup.
  • Score points for correct number bonds and bonus points for hitting it in one!
  • Carry on until all the cups have been used.

Have fun!
