This is a simple phonics game to help children practise a particular phoneme (sound) they have been learning.
What do you need?
Whiteboard (or paper) with 3 x 3 grid drawn on.
Post-it notes.
How to Play:
Using your chosen phoneme (sound), write some words with it in each space one the 3×3 grid and some words with different phonemes in.
Then cover each word with sticky notes (you might need two together so you can’t see through it).
Player one chooses a sticky note, removes it and reads the word below.
If the word has the phoneme in it, you score a point, if it doesn’t you either don’t get any points or lose a point from your total (depending on how you want to play it).
Play continues until all the post-it notes have been removed and the winner is the person with the most points.
