Aim of the Game:
This is such a simple ‘introduction to an unfamiliar times table’ activity. It’s such a simple activity but really helps to develop understanding of a times table.
What do you need?
- Post-it notes
- Whiteboard or large piece of paper (wallpaper rolls are good for this)
How to Play:
There are so many variations with this activity:
- Order the numbers from smallest to largest.
- Start by adding the numbers of the times table you know and then fill in the gaps.
- Speed test – how quickly can you add all the numbers to the number line?
- Discuss number patterns: odd/even, doubles,etc.
- Once familiar with the order of the numbers remove a couple and ask the child to fill in the missing number.
