What You Need
  • target number
  • A set of numbers around it (both greater than and less than)
  • Pen and paper (optional, for writing number sentences)
  • Players (can be done individually, in pairs, or as a class activity)
Game Setup
  1. Choose a target number and place it in the middle.
    • Example: 438
  2. Arrange a range of numbers around it, including numbers greater than and less than the target.
  3. Decide the order of play or who will call out the prompts.
How to Play
  1. Call out “greater than” or “less than.”
    • Example: Teacher or player shouts “greater than.”
  2. Choose a number that fits the prompt.
    • Example: Target = 438 → choose 500 (greater than 438).
  3. Optional: Write a number sentence.
    • Use the correct symbol to represent the comparison.
    • Example: 500 > 438
  4. Continue selecting numbers.
    • Example: Next prompt: “less than” → choose 54 (less than previous number).
    • Keep going as long as desired.
  5. Practice reading, comparing, and ordering numbers throughout the game.
Variations
