Roll A Character

Roll A Character

Aim of the Game

“Roll a Character” is an engaging comprehension activity designed to develop inference skills while using Mr. Men and Little Miss book titles. The game encourages players to think creatively about various aspects of a character, such as appearance, personality, and actions, using inference skills.

What You Need

  1. Mr. Men and Little Miss Characters: Either have the Mr. Men and Little Miss books or find images of the characters online, print them out, and have them on paper.
  2. Dice: Use a standard six-sided dice to determine which task to perform with the character.
  3. Pens and Paper: Provide pens and paper for players to write or draw their character descriptions.
  4. Players: Gather a group of players to participate in the game.

How to Play

  1. Set Up:
    • Prepare the Mr. Men and Little Miss characters or their titles on separate pieces of paper. Make sure the images of the characters are not visible.
  2. Character Selection:
    • Players choose a character title at random. Ideally, they should not see the character’s picture, only the character’s name.
  3. Character Tasks:
    • Each character has six tasks associated with it: draw the character, write a synonym for their name, write an antonym for their name, think about how they would talk, think about how they would move, and think about where they would live.
  4. Roll the Dice:
    • Players take turns rolling the dice. The number rolled (1 to 6) determines which task they should perform with their chosen character.
  5. Complete the Task:
    • Based on the dice roll, players complete the corresponding task for their character. For example, if they roll a 5, they might think about how the character would move.
  6. Share and Discuss:
    • After completing their task, players share their character’s description or answer with the group. Discuss and compare ideas.
  7. Continue Playing:
    • Players take turns rolling the dice and performing tasks until they have completed all six tasks for their character.
  8. Character Change:
    • If desired, players can choose a different Mr. Men or Little Miss character and start the process again with a new character title.

“Roll a Character” is a creative and educational game that encourages players to think critically about character traits and attributes using inference skills. It’s a fun way to explore literary characters and foster creativity in a reading comprehension activity.
