Roll a Word

Roll a Word

Aim of the Game:

This is a fun game to help practise spellings. This is a great game for two players or more as it gets really competitive!

What do you need?

  • your spelling words
  • a dice per player (2 if your words are longer than 6 letters)
  • a whiteboard or piece of paper per player

How to Play:

🎲 Write your spelling words on pieces of paper and turn them face down.
🎲 Draw a series of lines for the amount of letters the word has (picture 2).
🎲 One player turns over one of the word cards and shows it to the other players. At this point you can decide if the word stays visible to the players or if it is turned back over.
🎲 On ready, steady, go, players roll their dice. The number on the dice tells them which letter of the word they can write, for example, if they roll a 3, you write the third letter in your word.
🎲 If your words are longer than 6 letters, use two dice but on each roll players can decide if they roll one dice or two to enable them to roll all the numbers they need.
🎲 As fast as you can, keep rolling the dice and adding letters as you go.
🎲 The winner is the first person to write all the letters in their word and shout it out!

This game is fast paced and exciting and I bet players won’t even realising they’re practising spelling as they’re playing!
