Multiples of 10 Bowling – find 10 or 100 more or less (Yr3)
Aim of the Game:
Here’s a bowling inspired activity to help children practise how to find 10, 100 or 1000 more or less than a number. Play until all the pins have fallen over.
What do you need?
Small plastic drinks bottles to make the bowling pins with + or – 10, 100 and 1000 written on each bottle.
A small ball
Whiteboard/paper and numbers.
I always find using a place value chart really helps children to understand how to add and subtract multiples of 10 so worth making one of these on a whiteboard or bit of paper or download one here.
How to Play:
Make a 2, 3 or 4 digit number.
Roll the ball and collect any of the bottles you knock down.
Use these to complete the calculation, writing the new numbers as you go.
Play continues until all of the bottles have been knocked down.
