Here’s a simple activity for practising using different types of punctuation in writing. This practices the use of punctuation and also takes away the (sometimes) fear of children not knowing what to write about as they have been given a topic or category.
Roll both dice and read out the punctuation mark and the category.
Write a sentence about the category which also includes the piece of punctuation (for example, my dice roll meant I would need to write a sentence about weather which has speech marks in it).
