Aim of the Game: To build a chain of connected words using the last two letters of each previous word — a fun way to practise spelling, recall, and vocabulary!
What You’ll Need:
Paper or whiteboard
Pencil or pen
Optional: dictionary (to help when you get stuck!)
How to Play:
Start the Chain
The first player writes or says a word to start the game.
Example: table.
Make a New Word
The next player must think of a new word that starts with the last two letters of the previous word.
Example: table → lemon (using “le”).
Keep the Chain Going
Continue the pattern, using the last two letters of each new word to begin the next.
Example: table → lemon → only → lyric → icon → …
When You Get Stuck
If a player can’t think of a new word, they may use a dictionary to find one.
If no more words can be found, the round ends.
Winning the Game
You can play in two ways:
🏆 Longest Chain Wins: Count up how many words your team found — the longest chain wins!
❌ Drop-Out Version: Keep playing until someone can’t find a new word — that player is out, and the last player left wins!
Variations & Challenges:
One Letter Chain: For a quicker game, use only the last letter instead of two.
Three-Letter Challenge: For older or more confident players, use the last three letters!
Timed Round: Set a 10-second limit for each turn.
Theme Round: Choose a category like animals, food, or adjectives — all words must fit the theme.
✨ Educational Benefits:
Reinforces spelling and word formation skills.
Encourages vocabulary expansion and quick thinking.
Builds phonics and pattern recognition awareness.
Promotes teamwork, discussion, and reasoning about word choices.
