Find a Sentence

Introducing “Find a Sentence” – A Fun and Interactive Sentence-Building Game!

Aim of the Game:

The aim of “Find a Sentence” is to race against other players to collect words from different parts of speech and use them to create a complete sentence. This game helps children understand sentence structure while expanding their vocabulary.

What You Need:
  • Post-it notes with a variety of words (including nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and prepositions)
  • A table or room to stick the post-it notes around
  • A custom-made dice with the following sides: 2x nouns, 1x adjective, 1x verb, 1x adverb, 1x preposition
  • A list of the types of words each player needs to collect for their sentence
How to Play:
  1. Set Up the Game:
    • Write different words on post-it notes and stick them on a table or around the room. Make sure to include a mix of nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and prepositions.
    • Prepare a dice with the sides labelled as follows: 2x nouns, 1x adjective, 1x verb, 1x adverb, 1x preposition.
    • Give each player a list specifying the types of words they need to collect to form a sentence (e.g., 2 nouns, 1 adjective, 1 verb, 1 adverb, 1 preposition).
  2. Start the Race:
    • Players take turns rolling the dice.
    • Depending on the result, they must find and collect a word of the corresponding part of speech from the post-it notes around the room.
    • For example, if the dice shows “verb,” the player must find a post-it note with a verb and collect it.
  3. Continue Collecting Words:
    • Players keep rolling the dice and collecting the necessary words until they have all the types needed to complete their sentence.
    • The first player to collect all the required words shouts “Sentence!” and proceeds to form a sentence using the collected words.
  4. Form and Share the Sentence:
    • Once all the words are collected, players use them to construct a complete sentence.
    • Each player reads their sentence aloud. The sentences can be funny, creative, or nonsensical, adding an element of fun to the game.
  5. Determine the Winner:
    • The winner is the first player to collect all the necessary words and successfully form a sentence.
