Fraction Finder

Fraction Finder

Aim of the Game:

This game will help children to practise finding fractions of amounts. You can either play as a one player or to make it more fun, play with two or more players to see who can colour in or stamp all of their 100 square first.

The aim of the game is to be the first person to colour in all the squares on your grid.

What do you need?

  • an empty mince pie tray with circles with fractions written on,
  • a ping pong ball
  • a blank hundred square.

How to Play:

  • Turn the fraction circles face down in the mince pie tray. Player one throws the ball into the tray and turns the corresponding fraction circle over.
  • They then have to find that fraction of 100 (in my example it was 1/5 of 100 = 20).
  • Player one then stamps or colours in 20 squares on their grid and records how many squares they have left.
  • Play continues in this way but on player ones next turn they find a fraction of 80 (the remaining squares they have).
  • If they have a remainder after their calculation they just use the whole number to colour in their squares.
  • Make sure you rotate the fraction circles round every so often so they can’t choose the one they need!
  • The winner is the player to colour all of their squares in first.
  • This covers lots of areas of maths: fractions, subtraction and division in a fun way!
