Thinking of ideas for writing can be hard so turn it into more of a game to take the pressure off! This example helps children with character descriptions but can be adapted for other things you want to write about.
What do you need?
Cards with words written on them (in this case features of a person)
Whiteboard or paper
How to Play:
On cards write down some features of a person and turn them face down on a table or floor.
One player should turn a card over (and don’t show it to the other players).
You then have 30 seconds to write as many adjectives down that you can use to describe that feature.
After the 30 seconds, show the adjectives to the other player(s) who then has to guess what character feature they are describing.
Repeat this for some of the other features, taking it in turns to be the writer or the guesser.
At the end of this you’ll have a huge bank of adjectives to describe a character. The children could then circle the ones they like and have a go at using these to write their own character description.
