Aim of the Game:
This activity is really simple and covers lots of areas of reading and writing: prediction, verbs, extending vocabulary.
What do you need?
- A story with different verbs in (I find younger children’s books are often better for this)
- Sticky notes
How to Play:
- Before you show children the book, cover all the verbs up with the sticky notes.
- Children read the story and each time they get to a sticky note they have to predict what verb they think the author may have used and write it on the note. Can they think of three different verbs that would make sense?
- When they have added verbs to each sticky note they can go back and see if any of their predictions were correct.
Children could use a thesaurus to support them if needed. Maybe they could write some sentences with verbs and then challenge others to predict which ones they used?
