This game is based on the well known noughts and crosses game but with a grammar twist. The aim of the game is to cover each of the squares on the board with post-it notes to get three in a row.
The game could be adapted for so many different areas of English but this helps children revise different word classes.
What do you need?
A whiteboard or piece of paper with a 3×3 grid drawn on it and some words that fit into the different word classes you have.
Post-it notes with different word classes written on them. – download a list here.
How to Play:
This is a game for two players.
Player one must cover one of the words on the grid over with the correct post-it note, e.g. the word ‘beneath’ should be covered with the post-it note that says ‘preposition’.
Player two then takes their turn.
Play continues until one player has covered three words in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally or there is a stale mate.
