Here’s an English spin on the classic game of Connect 4. This will help children to practise the different types of word classes (noun, verb, adjective, preposition, adverb) and think of examples for each one.
What do you need?
Connect 4 board
Connect 4 game board pieces
Place different word class labels on the side of the board and then stick a letter card onto each counter.
How to Play:
Play the game as normal but when a counter is placed in the noun row, the player has to think of a noun beginning with the letter on the counter.
This could be written down on a sheet or whiteboard and then children could be challenged to create sentences using their words once the game is complete.
