๐ฏ Aim of the Game
To make the most arrays and fill the 100 square.
๐น What Youโll Need
- A blank 100-square grid (10 ร 10) for each game – download one here
- A dice
- A pen or pencil for each player (different colours)
๐ How to Play
- Each player chooses a pen colour.
- Player One rolls the dice twice to create a multiplication (e.g., roll 3 and 3 โ 3 ร 3).
- They shade in a rectangle of that size (3 rows ร 3 columns = 9 squares) anywhere on the grid.
- Player Two rolls the dice twice and shades in their rectangle (e.g., roll 3 and 1 โ 3 ร 1 = 3 squares).
- Players continue taking turns rolling, multiplying, and shading their areas.
- If there isnโt enough space for the exact rectangle rolled, that player misses their turn.
- The game ends when the grid is completely filled or no more moves are possible.
- Each player counts the number of squares they have shaded.
- The player with the most filled squares wins!
๐ Educational Benefits
- Reinforces knowledge of times tables in a practical, hands-on way.
- Strengthens spatial reasoning by fitting rectangles onto the grid.
- Encourages strategic thinking when choosing where to place each rectangle.
- Provides plenty of practice in multiplying single-digit numbers.
- Turns abstract multiplication into a visual and interactive activity.
- Supports Year 3โ4 curriculum objectives in multiplication, division, and measurement (area).
