Comprehension is basically children being able to understand a text that they read.
To begin with, I thought I’d share the skills that children are required to learn about in terms of comprehension. Rob Smith @literacyshed (definitely worth a follow and look at his website as the resources on there are amazing) created the acronym VIPERS to cover the skills that children learn.
These stand for:
Vocabulary
Inference
Prediction
Explanation
Retrieval
Sequence or Summarise
I’ve created some games and activities for each of the comprehension skills which I hope will help children practise them in a fun way.
